- Attractively designed guide presents the history of this fascinating building
This lively parish church is also a place of tourism and pilgrimage for visitors who climb the splendid tower or relax in the coffee shop. There has been a church on this site for a thousand years. The present buildings range in date from 1280 (the tower) to 1637 (the ‘Virgin Porch’), and they have seen a remarkable series of historical events, including the trial of Thomas Cranmer, a speech in Latin from Queen Elizabeth I and sermons from John and Charles Wesley and John Henry Newman.
