Description

Bertel Thorvaldsen was a nineteenth-century superstar, one of the most famous artists in Europe; he created works of art for the Pope, Napoleon and numerous royal households. His sculptures can be found from Paris to New York, and from Rome and Berlin to London – but the Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen is the beating heart of his legacy. Alongside his own work, it contains his private collections, which include beautiful paintings from the Danish Golden Age and thousands of treasures from classical antiquity. In this addition to the acclaimed Director’s Choice series, Stig Miss picks out his favourite pieces, creating a unique insight into a remarkable collection.
