- Beautifully illustrated and designed selection of Modern British Art, including paintings, drawings, graphics and sculptures, from an outstanding collection
Description
Pallant House Gallery in Chichester houses an outstanding collection of Modern British Art, including paintings, drawings, graphics and sculptures. It is a result of the vision and determination of a remarkable collector and patron of contemporary artists, Walter Hussey, Dean of Chichester Cathedral from 1955 to 1977, who left his collection to form the basis of a public art gallery. The collection was further strengthened in 1989 by Charles Kearley, who collected works by many of the artists in the Hussey bequest, as well as works by a number of their continental and US contemporaries. This beautifully designed and illustrated book follows themes in 20th-century British art history, using examples from this important collection to illustrate and elucidate the points made. It is far more than a book on a collection, and represents a scholarly contribution to this period of art history.
