The building of Winchester Cathedral began in 1079, although an important church had stood on an adjoining site from the 7th century. The longest medieval Gothic cathedral in Europe is a place of the finest architecture, art and music, blessed with an extraordinary history and diverse attractions; inter alia, it is particularly known for its several chantry chapels and its beautiful stained glass, including windows by Burne-Jones. Together, the Dean of Winchester's text and the stunning colour photography capture the unique character of a historic monument and a living place of worship in an elegant, atmospheric volume that will be a lasting souvenir. Also included is a complimentary special edition CD featuring music by the acclaimed Winchester Cathedral Choir.
