DESCRIPTION

The Salisbury Museum is an independent museum based in the King’s House, a medieval Grade I listed building located opposite Salisbury Cathedral. Over 150 years old, it is considered a local treasure.

Its collection represents every major period in English history – from the Palaeolithic to the modern era – and is regarded as one of the best archaeological collections in the country. The museum holds unique finds from the Stonehenge World Heritage Site, the Amesbury Archer and the Pitt-Rivers Wessex Collection, and offers an insight into the development of archaeology as a discipline. It also has a fine art collection, including works by Turner, Constable and Whistler, and impressive examples of costumes and ceramics.
