Launch of souvenir guide to Adare Friary & St Nicholas Church JULY 2015

A souvenir guide to the medieval friary

Published to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the foundation of the friary in 1315, this new guidebook was launched by the Prior Provincial of the Irish Province of Augustinians, Father John Hennebry, at St Nicholas Church.

The evening was a memorable occasion and included an engaging talk by conservation architect David Humphreys about how ancient buildings trigger can trigger emotional responses. Music by a female vocal ensemble singing from their medieval Irish repertoire added to the atmosphere of the occasion.

In the guidebook, Barbara Bingham tells the story of the foundation of the friary, the monastic life there and the role it played in the local community. Adare has survived largely unscathed and unspoiled and she describes the architecture of the friary buildings, and recounts their more recent history and the renewed sense of purpose they now embody.

The book is available to buy now onsite.
