Scala at ACE MARCH 2015

Scala heads to Bournemouth for the ACE annual convention

The beginning of March saw Scala heading down to the sunny south coast for the Association of Cultural Enterprises (ACE) annual convention, this year held in the Bournemouth International Centre. The three-day convention kicked off in style with a reception at the fabulous Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, surely boasting one of the most stunning gallery settings in the country, which set the tone for certainly the biggest (and possibly the best) ACE convention yet.

We exhibited for the following two days in the convention’s trade fair, where the great and good (we like to think!) of museum, gallery and heritage suppliers come together with clients and friends to show off our wares. The trade fair runs alongside a series of talks given by industry professionals, and fascinating discussions touched on everything from the magic of Disney’s Frozen (we were treated to a life-size model from the Disney store, not to mention some very popular goodie bags…) to the shifting relationship between curators and commerce. Our new multi-language guidebook for Canterbury Cathedral was in the running for the ACE Awards in the ‘Best New Guidebook’ category, although it eventually lost out to Kew Gardens. But as always, the ACE convention proved to be an intense and fruitful few days, offering a great opportunity to meet new people and catch up with our existing contacts. Not to mention the odd trip to the pier penny arcade!
