Launch of Start with a House, Finish with a Collection JUNE 2014

Beautiful new book about building a collection

Start with a House, Finish with a Collection was launched on June 4th at a luncheon at the Free Library in Philadelphia and in the evening at an elegant reception, held in conjunction with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, at the home of a fellow Philadelphia collector. Leslie Anne Miller charmed a large audience at both venues with an account of the process of writing the book —- from organizing her team of a photographer, designer, curator, and editor who are all tops in their fields -- and a description of what began as a desire to furnish a house and evolved into an exciting enthusiasm for collecting art and antiques of all types.  She explained the historical significance of the pieces and the importance of stewarding them in the future. The book, which neither colleagues, friends, nor dealers knew she was undertaking, highlights the breathtaking collection and its integration with modern life. Leslie conceived the book to appeal to all collectors -- the novice, the seasoned collector, and anyone contemplating collecting.

The book has received much acclaim. Nancy Campbell (Chairman Emeritus, National Trust for Historic Preservation), Ronald Hurst (Chief Curator, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation), Wendy Cooper (Curator Emerita of Furniture, Winterthur), Timothy Rub (Director & CEO, Philadelphia Museum of Art), M.P. McPherson (President Emeritus, Bryn Mawr College) and Nancy Druckman (SVP, Head, American Folk Art, Sotheby’s) have all publicly praised the book.
